Focus and Growth

What you focus on grows. It’s as simple as that.

Focus on your weight on the scale? It grows.

Focus on the hurt someone inflicted you? It grows.

Focus on the poison ivy on your skin? It grows.

But this principle also works the other way.

Focus on investing into a friendship? It grows.

Focus on mastering a skill? It grows.

Focus on being thankful? It grows.

Our minds somehow find a way to make what we focus on happen. In Star Wars, Episode I,  Qui-Gon says to Anakin, “Always remember, your focus determines your reality.”

When I focused on how exhausted I was, that is truly what I was, from morning to night–exhausted. But when I began to focus on health and joy, that is what I began to harvest. Tiredness and depression kind of went by the way side. Can any one identify?

This is just a fact of life; that’s how we are created. But when you take a hold of this, it can become a powerful key that opens many doors for you.

Want something to happen? Change your thoughts. Start focusing on it. And keep focusing on it.

Attained goals are reached not because of will power, or strong desire, or even ability. Goals aren’t a matter of will power or even ability.  They are the result of practiced thoughts that bring about actions. Focus that translated into doing things.

I have seen this in my life over and over again.

When I decided to be financially free, I decided to work on my mindset first. As I moved forward, I found (or did I create?) new paths that get me there. Consistent reflection on my goal started to paint a picture for me; the more I “sat” with my goal, the clearer my understanding of the solution was. And I found myself absolutely willing to do what I needed to do to get there. Focus became a driving force.

Our minds are truly amazing creations.  The Master Creator really knew what He was doing.

The reality on the inside becomes the reality on the outside. Every. single. time.

What will you focus on?

Self-Confidence vs. Godly Confidence

At its core, self-confidence is simply an overall mindset about your own ability to perform or to handle what comes your way. Each time you find success, you build evidence that you are able, and your self-confidence grows.

Self-confidence has everything to do with your thoughts about yourself.

Godly confidence is an overall mindset about God’s ability and faithfulness to move through you so that you can perform or handle whatever comes your way. Each time you find success in Him, you build evidence of His ability and faithfulness, and your Godly confidence grows.

Godly confidence has everything to do with your thoughts about God.

If you build your life on self-confidence, you will eventually be crushed, because you are designed to depend on God.

But as you build Godly confidence, you establish a firm foundation. You become secure, and you are never at the effect of what happens. You learn that you can handle anything in Him.

Godly confidence is generated or depleted depending on the thoughts you have about yourself and God.

Godly confidence is a mindset that grows as you practice it.

It’s easy to interpret Paul’s Godly confidence as arrogance, but when you look deeper into Paul’s life, you will discover that what looks like arrogance is a simple strong Godly confidence. This is why he could make such bold statements as, “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me,” (Philippians 4:19) or, For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Choosing to embrace a mindset that can handle your circumstnaces on your own is not useful, because it puts you in a place of self-reliance.

Choosing to embrace the mindset that God is faithful and able in your specific situation is beneficial in every way and build Godly confidence.
