How to Change your Thoughts 101

Last week, we talked about becoming aware of our thoughts. That’s where it has to start.

Let’s assume you have done the work and are beginning to realize that your thoughts need to be changed.

Now what?

  1. Accept the fact that you have chosen the thoughts you have,
  2. Realize that it is your birth right to change them,
  3. Start asking yourself specific questions.

I love to refer to thoughts as shirts hanging in a closet.

You simply get to pick a shirt out, try it on and see how it fits. Maybe it’s too tight, or it just doesn’t feel right.  Maybe it doesn’t line up with what you see in the Word. Or it does. Maybe you need to wear it for a couple of hours to see if it serves you or not. Maybe you put it on and you just know that it’s perfect.

Thoughts are like that.

If the situation is your work place and your thought has been, “I’m never going to catch up,” a new thought you may want to try on is, “God will show me how to do it,” or “I was made for this,” or “I have enough time to do what is required of me,” or “I can quit this job.” Whatever thought you choose to try on, put it on and observe yourself to see if it fits and motivates you enough to act so that you have the desired result at the end.

God wasn’t messing around when He said, “As a man thinks, so he is.” (Proverbs 23:7).
