Or a crazy story? Or a heart-wrenching story? And then, somehow, you wound up living that very story you told yourself?
For years, I told myself that I was fat. Unacceptable. Ugly. Not worth very much.
And that story on the inside, it became my reality on the outside.
Looking at the facts now, I was never really obese, or unacceptable, or ugly, or worth nothing.
But because I told myself that I was, I believed it and I acted accordingly–not daring to put myself out there because I knew that no one would want to hear from me, not going out with friends because my “fat” made me ugly and not lovable, not taking care of my appearance because I was “ugly” anyway.
And my result? Well, I did not have friends, my clothes did not fit, I wasn’t attractive and I had no self-esteem.
I simply proved to myself what I told myself all along.
I made sure I found evidence for the story on the inside.
Crazy, isn’t it?
We humans are fascinating.
We determine our lives by the thoughts that we choose.
All of what we experience truly originates from our thoughts.
Our thoughts create feelings which drive our actions, and our actions determine our results. This is the “thought loop,” and it is true 100 % of the time.
But we look at our results as a sign that this is our lot in life rather than the reality we actually created.
And that’s a very big problem.
The great news is that what torments us is not the circumstance we see in front of us, but our very thoughts.
~it’s not because we are overweight that we are depressed, but we are depressed because of our thoughts concerning our weight.
~the problem is not that we can never land a job, but the fact taht our thoughts about the interview process causes us to act a certain way and makes it difficult for anyone to hire us. Change your thoughts and you can nail the interview!
Our results are the result of our thoughts.
It’s really that simple!
Our thoughts are optional. We get to choose them.
We can change our thoughts and our life will forever be changed!
How can we start this process? Awareness is always the very first step.
We must become aware of our thoughts–the story that is going on in our head. The sentences in our head.
Once we identify the movie we are playing in your head, we can begin to change it.
And when we change it, we will change our results.
I promise you, that’s how it goes.
No wonder God tells us to “watch over your heart with all diligence for out of it spring the issues of life.” (Proverbs 4:20-23)
So, here’s the deal: the story on the inside becomes our reality on the outside. To change our reality, we must:
- Be aware of the story on the inside
- Change it.
