Anatomy of a Thought 101
In the most basic sense, words that we hear are simply little bits of information coming to us through our senses that are received through electromagnetic signals inside of our heads.
When we hear words, we can choose to ignore them or not. Basically, we choose whether to build a memory concerning these words or not. Thoughts are those memories that we create to hold the words we hear.
These thoughts are actual physical entities that occupy mental real estate. They look like little branches of a tree.
As we think a thought, we are physically making changes inside of our brains. So far so good?
Here comes the mind-blowing stuff:
Our thoughts impact future generations.
The previous generation’s thoughts impact us. Our own thoughts impact us here and now, and they also impact the next generation.
Let’s unpack this incredibly bold statement.
The changes that our thoughts produce inside of our brain pass through the sperm and the ova for up to four generations, but what is passed through goes dormant–it is “sealed up” until activated. So what we have inside of our heads from previous generations (passed through the sperm and ova) is zipped up until/unless it is switched on through our thinking–our choices.
So we can actually say that genetic expression is literally controlled through our thinking.
Genetic predisposition is just that–a predisposition, not a fact.
A predisposition is something that could happen or not; it is only a probability. When we “open the door” and unseal the predisposition, we make choices that actually change our DNA. This is what is then transmitted to the next generation.
The next generation will have the same choice to unseal the changes or not.
Fear, for example, is a choice that we make. The predisposition is zipped up until we generate a signal with our thoughts. This signal activates the predisposition and what was dormant is now awake.
We have a choice as to how we impact our physical world.
What does Choosing Mean?
Our free will is a fundamental gift from God that puts a huge responsibility on us.
The Scriptures say this clearly in Deuteronomy 30:19, “I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. So choose life in order that you may live, you and your descendants.”
Human beings are highly intelligent beings able to think, process, feel and make choices.
When we humans choose certain thoughts, we change the nature of our brain. When we think, we impact and change the way things work inside of our brain.
No thought is harmless. They affect us, and up to four generations. This is the reality of Deuteronomy 30:19.
Living our Purpose
Knowing this changes everything. If we do not think on purpose, everyone suffers.
We truly need to change the way we think about life. Our own lives are our responsibility, no one can change us but ourselves. Moment by moment, our thoughts are redesigning the landscape of our brain.
More on this next time (two weeks from now). For now, please tell us what you got out of this blog post, and please share it with anyone you know who needs a simple explanation of our thoughts!
